Frustrated

I definitely have a love/hate relationship with technology right now. Blogger is doing maintenance on their image uploader. I am glad, though, because I have been unable to upload images to my blog all day. Sorry you have to wait a bit longer for the long awaited Berlin post but I asure you it will be up at some point tomorrow and it will definitelt be worth the wait. I am really excited about the post so I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

MF and DF

Can't wait to see these two in 23 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAR EAGLE

Another weekend has come to an end and it could not have been a more perfect weekend here in Ramstein, Germany! With both the Auburn tigers and Georgia bulldawgs pulling out a win, 17A Kinsbachastrasse is a very happy household. I managed to pull off my moms homemade spaghetti sauce for a crowd Friday night. It will never be as good as hers but I did come pretty darn close. After dinner Friday night, we headed out to Landstuhl to enjoy a few drinks at a cute little Irish bar. They had an American band playing and they managed to pull of "walking in memphis" without me having to request it. Needless to say I was a very happy girl. Saturday we enjoyed being very low key and enjoyed watching the games on base. Today, we had another leisure day running errands, cleaning the car and doing some much needed laundry. We ended the day on base at the Tops in Blue show. It was absolutely incredible. You definitely need to google this show and find out what it is really about. They ended the show with Lee Greenwoods "Proud to be an American." I could fill the goose bumps coming on with the first verse and by the end of the song, everyone was on their feet singing loudly. Enjoy the pictures below.

So sorry about not having my Berlin post up yet. I am about half way done but believe me, it will be well worth the wait. Lots of pictures to show and stories to tell!!!

STAY TUNED...

One LONG post coming tomorrow on Berlin, Germany. The histroy that sustains this city is absolutely incredible. It proved to be a very moving weekend and it was one that I know I will never forget. Although there were some architecturally stimulating buildings and really neat museums, the city as a whole is overcome with remembrances to the dreadful years of the nazi regime and the holocaust. We were able to walk, one foot in front of the other, where the Berlin wall once stood. We were able to stand atop the bunker where that piece of crap, Hitler, cowardly took his own life and made a somber visit to the Jüdisches Museum Berlin (Berlin Jewish Museum) that houses many artifacts that once belonged to Jewish families that were wiped out in the concentration camps. On a completely different note, we spent an absolutely beautiful day in the town of Potsdam. The town, in a way, reminded me a lot of New Orleans. It was an incredible trip and I can't wait to fill you all in on the details.

FYI – I did manage to take over 400 pictures and there is a good chance you will be seeing a vast majority of them tomorrow :)

Unpredictability

*Just a warning, this is a LONG winded post.

Yesterday I realized that things do not always go as planned. Eric was flying back to Germany from Sicily early yesterday morning. He would have to go into work for a couple of hours before heading back to the house to enjoy a little party we had planned. It wasn't anything big. We just had a few friends coming over for appetizers and drinks, then head to dinner followed by a night of karaoke at the bar on Volgelweh I mentioned in a previous post. I sent some cupcakes with Matt to work so when Eric arrived in the morning, he and his whole unit could enjoy them to kick off his birthday. Well as Erics plane was about to take off from Sicily, smoke filled the cockpit and they were all told to evacuate immediately right there on the runway. We are all thanking the good Lord that the plane was not in the air when this happened. They evacuated and were later told that they probably would not be able to find another plane to bring them back to Germany until tomorrow (which is technically today). Talk about a HUGE bummer! I think everyone was pretty upset and frustrated at the thought of that. A couple of hours later, I got a call from Ryan and he said that Eric had just called the office. They did in fact find another plane. The plane was currently in Greece. It was scheduled to be in Sicily in time to pick up the guys and have a departure time of 3:30pm and would arrive at Ramstein AFB at 6pm. 6 works great. Thats the time people were going to be coming over for drinks. Not a bad deal. Well then due to weather, Eric messaged me and said they were now delayed until 8pm. Ok, a little later but we can deal with it. Then 30 minutes later I get a message that says they will be back at 9pm. Again, we can deal with 9. We will just do a late dinner (that is the norm for Germany) before heading ot karaoke. As we were chatting online around 2pm about where we should go for dinner, I see SH*T flash across the screen. They had just informed Eric that the weather had cleared up fine but the plane that is supposed to come pick them up was in Greece and THE GREEK AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLERS DECIDED TO GO ON STRIKE. By this point, you just had to laugh!!!! Whatever. It sucks big time but we just agreed we would definitely celebrate in Berlin. So now they were predicting that they would strike until around 7pm. At that time the plane could THEN head to Sicily, pick up the guys and would be back in Ramstein around midnight. Well that is exactly what happened. Eric finally walked through the front door around 12:30am. Just enough time for Matt and I to wish him a Happy Birthday Belated Birthday, watch him open some gifts, eat a cupcake and head to bed. After all is said and done, sometimes you just have to realize that no matter how planned out something is, it is never guaranteed to go as planned. It was definitely a lesson in patience but I think Eric handled it really well. He did inform us that the guys did take him out to celebrate on Wednesday night in Sicily and that he was *struggling* pretty bad on Thursday so I am glad he got in a good celebration. We do plan on continuing the celebration this weekend in Berlin. I was told to pack clothes that would "blend in" and not make me stand out due to the hightened security issues going on in all the major cities in Europe...Berlin being one of them. Yikes. I hate not feeling safe but Eric assured me that we would be fine. So, I am off to pack. I heard Berlin in a pretty incredible city so hopefully I will be able to take some great pictures! I'll leave you with a couple pictures I took of the house after I decorated it for Erics birthday. I hope everyone has a great weekend. Miss you all!!!
Not really the best pictures but this is walking into the dining room

His birthday sign I made him. He said it looked like something out of Survivor because i used two bamboo poles to hold it up. I have to give credit to Matt for the bamboo idea.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE BROTHER

To the outside world we all grow old.  But not to brothers and sisters.  We know each other as we always were.  We know each other's hearts.  We share private family jokes.  We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys.  We live outside the touch of time.  ~Clara Ortega
I don't think God could have done a better job matching you up with me and Laura :) It's funny to look back on those days when mom wanted to pull her hair out because she thought we would NEVER get along. You and Laura are without a doubt my two very best friends and I know that none of us could imagine a day of life without you in!! It's obvious how sappy this post could get so I will just leave it at that. LOVE YOU!!
